When I first started watching birds in Aug. of 2006, I had a goal of capturing a photo of every species that visited my little patio.
I've done pretty well for living in a condo complex to have had so many different kinds of birds visit me.
In the Fall of 2006 I had a Downy Woodpecker visit my suet feeder but never got that photo. I hadn't seen once since until....
MY BIRDCAM CAUGHT ONE A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO!!!!
I am so excited and happy to see one again as I think they are neat little birds!
Here's the video of the one that came to visit:

Splish Splash
It's so nice to be capturing something on my Birdcam other than Starlings! I love watching birds taking baths, they splash with such joy, like a kid in a wading pool.

Dating Decisions
Well, it's been just over a month since I was broken up with and I'm wondering if it's time to venture back into the dating world.
I like socializing so I want to be out meeting people. The dilemma is whereabouts do I do this meeting of people? My girlfriends all have husbands/boyfriends now so I'm pretty much on my own.
I don't do bars. I am tired of the online dating thing; after awhile it starts to feel like work.
Obviously a nice man isn't going to drop into my patio so I have to make some sort of effort to get out amongst the people. What ever happened with people setting other people up on dates? At least then someone knew someone and it wasn't a complete stranger out of nowhere.
I see the whole summer stretched out before me and I'd like to view it as endless possibilities as opposed to endless boredom and loneliness. Although I don't ever really get bored. I do get lonely though.
I have just 10 working days left and then I am off for the summer.
Surely there must be a Male Dancing Birdwatcher out there for me!!
Otherwise my summer vacation plans will be:
a. letting my hair go gray (see previous post)
b. leash training my cat to take on walks. (really, people do this!)
c. organizing my garage (I need to have a garage sale)
I don't know if I can take that much excitement!
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. If anyone has a nice 50+- guy for me to meet, that's even better!

STARling WARS

Another day with the BirdCam and another 95 photos of....yep, you guessed it, European Starlings! I did capture one that is pretty cute though; a couple of young birds demanding to be fed. I had a chickadee come in a few times but it was too fast for the BirdCam to catch it! Maybe next time...

BirdCam Blues

Well, my BirdCam arrived a little over a week ago and I have yet to capture a good photo. I know I am probably doing something wrong but it's such a simple device, how could I be doing so poorly?
And why isn't the cam triggering when a bird is right in front of it a mere 20 inches away???
While birds are not getting their close-ups, the squirrels are having much better luck getting in on the act.
I'm in contact with an extremely nice gal from the company and will call her again after the long weekend. I have not given up!

Hungry Baby

I was looking out my patio window when this little guy (or girl) landed on my fence right by the window and started squawking for mama to come and bring it some grub. I hate to admit it, (shh, don't tell anyone) but even baby Starlings are cute. Not so much when they grow up.
By the way, this photo is not cropped.

For the Birds

I get my hopes up that these visitors will be regulars and it's such a letdown when I realize that no, they aren't coming back. Did they find better grub somewhere else? Were they just passing through to their intended destination? I'll never know because they never say good-bye or give me a warning that they are leaving.
Case in point: Over the last few days I've had THREE black-headed grosbeaks in for the first time! Yesterday they were in and out all day long and I was getting quite attached. I could tell them apart even.
Today I have not seen ONE, not once. I feel lonely. I feel abandoned. Nothing but snarlings, I mean starlings. Don't get me started on them. That's a subject best left alone.
