Winter Birding

I love the cooler weather and I love seeing all the birds coming in!

I have dark eyed juncos, black capped chickadees, chestnut backed chickadees, downy woodpeckers (in photo), northern flickers, house finches, gold finches, anna's hummingbirds, bushtits, and a song sparrow coming in. I also have the "snarlings" AKA starlings coming in but I try to ignore them.

I am anxiously awaiting the pine siskins and varied thrushes as the weather gets colder.

The trees may be barren but the birding is plentiful!

Chickadee Madness!

I have a small area off my living room sliding doors where I have put a couple of bird feeders (both seed and suet) and a little birdbath.

I've had a number of birds come in to sip and dine, including chickadees, red-breasted nuthatches, house finches, and bushtits. There's also a little brown bird that I couldn't identify that came in for a few days.

What's amazing is that the number of chickadees has increased from from 2-3 to 6-7 AT ONE TIME!!! I have three chestnut backed chickadees and several black-capped chickadees visiting.

Yesterday and today I've had 3 chickadees at one time drinking at the birdbath!!

I've tried my birdcam on the feeders but even the chickadees seem too quick to be captured but tomorrow I'll focus it on the birdbath and see if I can get a group shot.

I've read that black-capped chickadees are diminishing in numbers so I'm very happy that they choose to visit me!

Birdcam Happiness

In the midst of all my turmoil, I am enjoying the surprises I find when I check the memory card on my Wingscapes Birdcam!

No matter what else is going on, it brings a smile to my face!

I captured this funny photo of a black-capped chickadee standing at attention at the feeder.

And here is a video of a daddy Northern Flicker feeding his baby boy - so cute! Without the birdcam I would have missed this! You can hear the baby sounding off 'cuz he's hungry!

I love my birdcam!
